Sierra Space’s custom solar applications leverage multiple in-house capabilities, including automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) solar panels, composite substrate manufacturing, and mechanisms expertise. The SMT approach offers flexibility in panel size, geometry, electrical layout (sectioning and stringing), and bus voltage.

Configuration options describe portfolio scope. Qualification and availability must be confirmed for the hardware selected for a specific mission.

Integration and test

Integration and Verification

Sierra Space offers turnkey, bolt-on rigid solar arrays. Its incremental solar array drive assemblies (SADA) were developed specifically for spacecraft solar-array pointing applications. Electrical checks, deployment testing, and environmental verification are defined for the selected spacecraft and its mission environment.

Questions

Electrical Power Systems FAQs

What can a Sierra Space electrical power system include?
A mission-specific system can integrate solar arrays with drive assemblies, slip rings, hinges, hold-down mechanisms, deployment hardware, and motor-control electronics. The final scope depends on spacecraft requirements.
How are electrical power systems configured for a mission?
Engineers evaluate panel geometry, electrical layout, bus voltage, deployment, interfaces, operating environment, and verification requirements before defining a configuration.
What verification can support an integrated system?
Published Sierra Space capabilities include electrical, deployment, and environmental testing. The applicable verification plan is defined for each program and configuration.
